Sinochem Fubia is a professional additive company under Sinochem International. 1. Aging pain points of powder coatings and action mechanism of additives

 

01 Core aging problem

Thermal oxygen aging: extrusion/mixing/high-temperature curing (180–220°C) causes resin chain scission, yellowing, gloss loss, and mechanical property degradation.

Photooxidative aging: Outdoor UV (280–400nm) triggers a free radical chain reaction, leading to loss of gloss, powdering, cracking, fading, and yellowing of the coating.

Synergistic failure: It is difficult for a single additive to solve the multi-dimensional aging of heat/light/oxygen at the same time, and requires compounding to increase efficiency.

 

02 Mechanism of action of Fubia additives

Antioxidants (thermal oxygen protection)

Main antioxidant (hindered phenols): captures free radicals, terminates chain reactions, and inhibits thermal oxygen degradation and yellowing.

Auxiliary antioxidants (phosphites/thioethers): decompose peroxides, reduce hydroperoxides, and cooperate with the main antioxidants to improve thermal stability.

 

UV absorbers (photoprotection)

Benzophenones: absorb in the band 290–350nm, convert into heat energy, and are suitable for general outdoor scenarios.

Function: Block UV direct damage to resin, delay photo-oxidation, and preserve color and gloss.

 

2. Compatibility of Fubia’s core products with powder coatings

 

01 Antioxidant series

Hindered phenol main antioxidant ECOSCINOX 1010, ECOSCINOX 1076; low-volatility, heat-resistant, anti-yellowing general-purpose polyester/epoxy powder, high-temperature curing system.

Phosphite auxiliary antioxidants ECOSCINOX 168 and ECOSCINOX 626; decompose peroxide, synergize extrusion/curing high-temperature protection, and inhibit thermal yellowing.

 

02 UV absorber series (for powder only)

Benzophenone UV-531; light color, good compatibility, small migration, general outdoor use, opaque powder.


 

3. Application scheme in powder coatings

 

01 Production and processing stage (extrusion/mixing/crushing)

Core needs:

Inhibits thermo-oxidative degradation at high temperatures (100–130°C), prevents yellowing, preserves resin activity, and improves crushing fluidity.

Recipe plan:

The main antioxidant (1010) is added in an amount of 0.1–0.3% + the auxiliary antioxidant (168) is added in an amount of 0.1–0.2% to synergistically inhibit thermal yellowing.

 

02 High temperature curing stage (180–220℃, 10–20min)

Core needs:

Inhibit curing thermal oxidative aging, maintain gloss, prevent yellowing, and increase cross-linking degree.

 

Recipe plan

General system:

Hindered phenol + phosphite compound, total addition 0.2-0.5%.

High temperature/long time cure:

Hindered phenol + phosphite compound + a small amount of UV absorber (UV-531 added 0.1–0.3%), double protection.
