Green solutions are an inevitable choice in the context of global sustainable development. This article introduces BYK Chemical's green foaming solutions BYK-8020 and BYK-8070 , two mechanical foaming foam stabilizers, to make our plastic economy green, environmentally friendly and sustainable.

01 Industry Background

PVC foam products are widely used. At present, the most common foaming form of PVC materials is chemical foaming, and azodicarbonamide is mainly used as a foaming agent (hereinafter referred to as AC foaming agent). However, on June 27, 2018, the European Union included AC foaming agents in the list of substances of very high concern (SVHC), which caused the market and consumers to worry about products produced with AC foaming agents. However, at this stage, AC foaming agents are still the best foaming agents used in PVC foam materials in terms of performance and cost. The industry has not yet found a suitable alternative solution.

If you have any questions, look for BYK. BYK, a master in the additive industry, has long proposed a corresponding solution to this challenging problem: using a mechanical foaming process combined with BYK's green foam stabilizers BYK-8020  and  BYK-8070 .

02 Why use mechanical foaming

  • Lower gel temperature compared to chemical foaming
  • Better sound insulation and resilience (thick coating)
  • When applying by dipping, less PVC paste is needed at the same degree of wetting.
  •  Foamed products have a smoother surface
  • No troubles caused by AC foaming agent, combined with BYK's foam stabilizer, low odor and low VOC
