Properties and Benefits
The additive deflocculates pigments by steric hindrance. Due to the small particle size of the deflocculated pigments, high gloss and improved color intensity can be achieved. In addition, transparency and coverage are increased. The additive reduces viscosity, thereby improving flow and allowing higher pigment loadings. When used for electrostatic high-speed spin coating of inorganic pigment coatings, it can significantly reduce haze.
Recommended Applications
The additive is recommended for use in solvent-borne and solvent-free coatings and printing inks for stabilizing inorganic pigments, especially titanium dioxide. Due to its anionic character, the additive is ideal for acid-catalyzed systems (e.g. coil coatings).
Recommended dosage:
Amount of additives (as purchased) based on pigment
: Inorganic pigment: 5-10%
Titanium dioxide: 2-4%
The above data are empirical dosages, and the optimal dosage needs to be determined through a series of tests.
Incorporation and Processing Instructions
For best performance, the additives should be added to the grind prior to adding the pigment.
